DR. WAYNE DYER HAS BROUGHT HUMANISTIC IDEAS TO THE MASSES

Dr. Wayne Dyer spent much of his early years in an orphanage. Surprisingly he learned much of his current philosophy during these hard times without bitterness. He went on to get his Doctorate of Education in counseling from Wayne State University. After his PhD he was a guidance counselor in Detroit high schools. The early hard times lessons served him well. He also became a professor at St. Johns University in New York.
His big break came when he combined his early theses and, despite advice against it, published them as “The Erroneous Zones”. It was such a huge success that the book became one of the best sellers of all time. Even today, after more than 35 million copies in print, they still are in demand. His success came really with his own sense of self promotion and drive.
In his TV appearances and lectures he often tells anecdotes from his family life…such as it was. He told his audiences and readers to pursue “Self Actualization” calling reliance on the self as a guide to “religious” experience. He went on to suggest they look to Jesus, as he believed Jesus made it happen for himself. Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern and peace, he says.
Today you will find him moving on to Asian philosophies of Tao Te Ching and others. They are all relevant. Dyer travels much of the time and lectures to sold out crowds, as well as appearing regularly on PBS in 3 hour segments.
The biggest effect Wayne has on everyone seems to be that he forces us to think within ourselves and also to reach out and love one another. In this time of stress and concern about so many serious problems, both personal and international, we need someone like Dyer to help us to rise above these and heal ourselves. You can find dozens of his books and tapes and CD’s in stores everywhere.
