WILL RUPERT MURDOCH EVENTUALLY DOMINATE MEDIA IN THE WORLD?

We have all heard of this almost-legendary man but who is Rupert Murdoch, really? According to Forbes Magazine, Murdoch is the 32nd wealthiest American with a networth of $7.7 billion. Rupert Murdoch, is an Australian-American global media tycoon. He is the major shareholder, chairman and managing director of News Corporation (News Corp). Beginning with newspapers, magazines and television stations in his native Australia, Murdoch expanded News Corp into the UK, US and Asian media markets. In recent years he has become a leading investor in satellite television, the film industry, the Internet and media. News Corp is based in New York.  Murdoch is the son of a powerful Australian newspaper proprietor, the late Sir Keith Arthur Murdoch. He attended some of Australia's and England’s most elite private schools.

He acquired The News of the World, which had been the most popular English language newspaper in the world, claiming a peak circulation of 8,441,966 in 1950. Murdoch acquired The London Times and Sunday Times in 1981. Murdoch made his first acquisition in the United States in 1973, when he purchased the San Antonio Express-News. Soon afterwards, he founded Star, a supermarket tabloid, and in 1976, he purchased The New York Post. In 1996, Murdoch chose to enter the world of cable news with the Fox News Channel, a 24-hour cable news station. Following its launch, Fox News consistently has eroded CNN's market share. Murdoch acquired Star TV from a Hong Kong company in 1993,
STAR TV (Asia) and created offices for it throughout Asia, including Singapore, China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, etc. It is one of the biggest satellite TV networks in Asia. In 2003, he controlled a large stake in Hughes Electronics, operator of DirecTV. In 2005, News Corp. bought Intermix Media Inc., which held MySpace.com the dominant internet social network.

As for politics, He was a great friend and supporter of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Currently, the three times married Murdoch, is supporting 2008 Democratic candidate for President Hillary Clinton. Rupert Murdoch is not a young man, but there seems to be no slowing down in the expansion plans and growth of this media and corporate genius.
