ANNE MACZULAK PhD KNOWS MORE ABOUT GERMS AND VIRUSES THAN ANYONE ELSE

We live in a world that, for bad and good, is dominated by germs and viruses and bacteria and molds and all those “ichy” things. Clean them up you may say! But if you do that we would never be able to live another day. Many of them give us life. The ones inside our gut, for instance, help us to digest our food and those on our skin may chase away bad ones that would penetrate inside us and poison us.

Yes there are some real-l-l-ly bad ones around us, and they kill many millions each year. We try to overcome them but often they get away from us and even though we have chemicals to overcome them, they just get much stronger and laugh at us.

Anne also tells us where they live beside us and in us. They are on every surface you can imagine. The worst place to find the bad ones is in the kitchen. Look closely at that old sponge, for instance, or on the cutting board or in the kitchen drain. As for the bathroom, that is a real battlefield. Believe it or not the toilet seat is not the worst place. It could be the handle on the toilet flush or the taps, or even on the tile, and as for the towels. They could be really terrible

But the worst place you experience every day is in your office environment. The desk surface is a really bad one. But your computer keyboard and mouse are worse. And don’t even talk about the phone or your own cell phone.

Anne has a wonderful new book that should be required reading for every one of us, ”The Five Second Rule and Other Myths About Germs.” “Germs” have been with us, and even preceded us on our planet by billions of years. As long as we are here, they will be here too. We always think we are the dominant beings on Earth, but that is really doubtful.
